2009: A Year in Photographs.

2009 was the biggest year of my life. I would say I didn’t photograph as much as I wish I would have, but what I did take was the best of my career. In 2009 I: upgraded my camera to a 40D, met new people, moved churches, started my senior year, got a new car, watched 5 of my friends scatter across the country, and met an entire new group of friends.

Janurary: Nicole

Nicole is my bestfriend. I love her to death. She was always up for a photoshoot, and we got some of the best photos ever together. We discovered great vintage thrift stores, and in general walked around awesome together. She moved to Austin, Texas in August of this year, which was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. I did get to go see her in September, and as always, we had a blast. This photo was from a snow day.

Feburary: Andria

Andria and I have always had a rockin time with whatever we did. We’ve performed on stage together, done photographs together, and made weird videos together. I met her about 4 years ago and we’ve been tight since we both realized that we love Imogen Heap.

March: Nicole (2)

In March, Nicole and I took a day trip to Salem Lake, probably because we were bored. We did one of my favorite photoshoots of all time on that day.

April: New Start!

In April I got a new camera, a Canon 40D. It was at this time that I got a new flickr account, a completely fresh slab. It was also in this month that I did the first shoot with my camera, featuring Nicole and her boyfriend Dan. Dan lives in Virginia Beach and was down visiting that weekend.

May: Prom, Nicole (3), and Jessica

The biggest event of May was probably Prom. I had always wanted to go to Prom when I was homeschooled, and I finally got to go this year. Our Prom is really small and kind of lame, but I got this great photo of my friend Megan out of it.

That same month Nicole and I went back to the spot we did the her and Dan shoot for some photos. This was probably my favorite photo I took this year. I entered it into the Imogen Heap Ellipse contest, although it didn’t win.

The last shoot in May was my cousin Jessicas engagement shoot. The idea of the Balloons and the field was my friend Andrias. We kind of partnered for this one.

June:  Megan

I did the first shoot with Megan in June. I was nervous about it. I’d only ever really photographed Nicole for just “fun.” But the shots came out well and Megan could have been a lot worse of a model. She was kind of tight though.

July: Jessicas Wedding, Hannah

In July my cousin Jessica, from the balloon and field shoot, was married to Jeff Courtney. I took this photo of my friend Hannah Jennings there. This photo turned out to be one of my favorties of 2009. The next week I did a shoot with my friend Hannah McMurtry. She wound up using these as her senior portraits in our school yearbook.

August: The Empty Month.

I didn’t photograph at all in August. It was an emotional month for me. Nicole suddenly was moving to Texas, Hannah Jennings and her brother Jesse were headed up north, and several others were South Carolina bound. The times I really should have been photographing, I wasn’t. I was wrecked the whole month. I did upload this to flickr in August, but it was taken on July 31st.

September: Daniel

In September I regrouped. I did some senior portraits. I did these of my friend Daniel. He’s by far the best friend I’ve ever have. He’s a great guy. I’ve never been so nervous about a shoot like I was with this one. I had never photographed a guy before. He was excellent though, really easy to work with.

October: Megan and Dessie

In October I did more senior portraits. I did a lot of these in the last few months of 2009. At this point I had moved churches. I left my old church, Christ Wesleyan to go on to a new place, with new people, and a new start. I couldn’t handle being at Christ Wesleyan anymore. All my friends were gone, and I had other issues going on over there. I needed to get out. I did these portraits of Megan and Dessie in Megan’s big field.

November: Rob Morisson

In Novemeber I did this really cool shoot with my friend Rob of www.prettypurplepeople.tumblr.com. He wanted some promoy type of photos done for it. Check out his blog! Rob is an absolute hoot!

December: Hedgepeth family shoot.

In December I did the Hedgepeth family shoot. Mrs. H was my homeschool tutor for 3 years, and Mr. H my Tae Kwon Do instructor for 3 years. They’re some of the most odd people I’ve ever met, but also some of the most fun. Here’s their family portrait.

So that’s it. My year in photographs. I can see how much better I’ve gotten through the whole year. It was an amazing year.

Here’s to 2010.
